It didn't take long after the hamburgers were thrown on the grill before a cluster of Airmen came from their dorm rooms to gather around and enjoy free food and good weather August 24 at the "Cookout Delux."

Chaplain (Capt.) Shannon Workman and volunteers from the chapel community worked together at a picnic area in the back of the dorms to make hamburgers, hotdogs, flavored ice treats and more for Airmen to get together and eat.

According to Chaplain Workman, the gathering was a ministry aimed at single and unaccompanied Airmen on base.

"These events come from the hearts of the chapel community to reach out to Airmen that may not have a family around, and may want to get together with other airmen that are in the same situation," said Chaplain Workman.

This was the second of many monthly events to come from the Laughlin Chapel.

The kick-off event was called the "Hootnanny Delux," which was to serve the same purpose of the Cookout Delux.

The next event will be held Sept. 28.
