Changes in Laughlin Herald's classified ad policy

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Since the 47th Flying Training Wing's Public Affairs office has discontinued the Border Eagle newspaper and the Del Rio News Herald has begun publishing the Laughlin Herald, there seems to be an influx of questions regarding the classifieds section of the paper.

Most aspects of the classifieds will remain the same, but a few changes have been put into place to make the process of submitting an ad easier for members of Team XL.

Free classifieds are available to anyone who lives or works on Laughlin AFB, including civilian employees and contractors. Verification of employment is mandatory, and anyone submitting an ad will need to provide a duty phone number as well as a home or cellular phone. Ads submitted without a duty phone number will not be accepted.

Business ads, which are strictly prohibited, are any ads that are not a one-time sale of personal property. The public affairs office reserves the right to determine what constitutes a business ad. A good rule of thumb is if you sell something on a regular basis for profit, it cannot be sold through the free classifieds.

The only way to submit ads is by filling out the classified ad form found in the Laughlin Herald. Copies of this form can be found in the Public Affairs office, Bldg. 338. Submissions must be no longer than 20 words, and must include sponsor's name, unit, duty phone and one other phone number. Only the personal phone number will be published. Completed forms should be dropped off to the Public Affairs office, or faxed to 298-5047.

Ads for garage or yard sales and homes for sale no longer need Housing Office coordination. Properties for rent are considered business ads and are not authorized.

Classifieds will be run for one week. Those submitting ads cannot request the ad run longer; they will need to resubmit the ad altogether each week. Ads must be submitted by close of business (4:30 p.m.) Thursday to appear in the following week's issue of the Laughlin Herald.
