3rd Annual Devil Dash Published March 18, 2015 By 2nd Lt. Aaron Redfield 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 434th Flying Training Squadron booster club is hosting the third annual Devil Dash race, here, March 28 at 7:00 a.m. "The goal this year is to raise $10,000 for the Air Warrior Courage Foundation. AWCF is an organization that cares for their own," said 1st Lt. David Sondrup, Devil Dash race director, "their mission is to help military members with medical expenses from treatment to wheelchairs, as well as helping with educational scholarships for family members." The connection with the AWCF is part of the 434th FTS heritage dating back to 1969 when Major Robin Olds was squadron commander. Olds later formed the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association which works closely with the AWCF today. To those who are not big racers, "don't be intimidated," said Sondrup, "this is a family friendly event, strollers and pets are welcome. It is also a unique opportunity to see a flight line up close. There is also free food, and most importantly, it is for a good cause." The Devil Dash is open to Laughlin members and the Del Rio community. Registration is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. Registration will increase $5 on race day so sign up early. Those wanting to participate but don't have base access, please sign up before March 23 in order to attain base access.
