America celebrates Flag Day June 14 each year. The date commemorates the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the nation's flag.

In celebration of this, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will be holding a ceremony to honor our country's flag at the BPOE lodge, June 14, at 2 p.m.

At the event, the Elks will hold a decommissioning ceremony for old flags that are too tattered to fly and must be properly destroyed. In addition, the Elks will be displaying every type of flag the U.S. has at one time flown and will be reading the history behind each design.

"This is a day that honors our flag, its history and all those that have given their lives preserving it," said Bob Lohr, a past exalted ruler of the Del Rio Elks Lodge.

Members of Laughlin's Honor Guard will be in attendance to perform a flag ceremony.

There will also be a potluck for attendees to enjoy after the ceremony's conclusion.

The ceremony will take place at the BPOE lodge, located on San Felipe Road located between Calderon Elementary School and the San Felipe golf course and the event is free and open to everyone interested in honoring the American flag.
