LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --

Unit and job title: 434th Flying Training Squadron check flight scheduler

Why he XLed: Smith led the creation of the first official ‘stand-up’ instructional video for Air Education and Training Command’s Pilot Instructor Training course that is crucial to the development of future AETC instructor pilots. ‘Stand-up’ is an exercise instructors use to test students on emergency procedures that pilots must know and remember during flight. He also instructed the Self-Aid and Buddy Care course, mentoring seven Airmen and ensuring squadron deployment and disaster readiness. Smith was also the top pick to schedule flights for the AETC Deputy of Intelligence, Operations and Nuclear Integration’s training visit.
