As a wing-wide effort, Laughlin Air Force Base is starting its first “Operation Spoil the Deployer” event, Nov. 23, 2015 to December 10, 2015.

“Operation Spoil the Deployer” is slated to be a semi-annual event designed to collect donations for care packages for all of Team XL’s deployed members.

"Our squadrons have always done and will continue to do an excellent job supporting their deployed members, but not every squadron has people down range," said Col. Thomas Shank, 47th Flying Training Wing commander.

The donation points will be at the Exchange, Commissary and during Cookie Caper night on Dec. 9. Some recommended items to donate are: body wash, cookies, candy, jerky, popcorn, magazines, etc.

“It’s a good way to support our deployed troops as a community,” said Erin Thompson, wing key spouse and ‘Operation Spoil the Deployer’ point of contact. “We can show our deployed Airmen that we are thinking of them and supporting them by building and sending care packages.”

Volunteers are welcome to help assemble the care packages on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. at Club XL.

"Operation Spoil the Deployer is a way for all of Team XL, regardless of squadron affiliation, to embrace our deployed members as one big family and recognize their sacrifice during the holidays,” said Shank. “To our deployed warriors: I want to thank you for your commitment to our deployed mission. We eagerly await the day you will return to fill the void we've felt while you've been away from our 47th FTW mission."
