Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas -- Laughlin’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office held its 3rd annual Strike Out Sexual Assault Bowl-A-Thon at Cactus Lanes Bowling Alley in observation of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, here, April 25, 2016.
The Strike Out Sexual Assault Bowl-A-Thon is a yearly event to help raise awareness of sexual assault in the Air Force and support for survivors.
“Many people question if sexual assaults happen here at Laughlin, and the sad truth is that they do,” said Capt. Rebecca Sullivan, 47th Flying Training Wing alternate sexual assault response coordinator. “Each team at the bowling event was actually given a letter from a survivor that was stationed at Laughlin.”
The letters explained how the assault impacted the survivor’s life, how they overcame the challenges surrounding their personal circumstances, what they want others to know about survivors of sexual assault and what can be done to help other survivors.
“All in all, we had a fantastic turnout this year to raise awareness,” said Sullivan. “It’s important to remember to know your part, do your part and to continue raising awareness throughout the year.”
