LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –A KC- 135 and C-17 from Altus Air Force Base act as static displays on the flight line during Major Weapons Systems Day here Jan. 6. The MWS Day was held to provide Laughlin’s SUPT students an opportunity to look at and get a feel for some of the Air Force’s aircraft they may fly after graduating from Laughlin, such as a KC-135 Stratotanker, C-17 Globe Master III, B-1B Lancer and F-15E Strike Eagle. The MWS day also gave students an opportunity to attend briefings from aircrew to help them and their families obtain a better understanding of the operational Air Force. Laughlin Air Force Base student pilot graduates, Class 15-08, and their families tour two F-35 Lightning II jets on May 1, 2015. This Douglas A-1E was severely damaged in combat in South Vietnam. It is the aircraft that was flown by Maj. Bernard Fisher on March 10, 1966, when he rescued a fellow pilot shot down over South Vietnam, an act for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
