LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training students explore a B-1B Lancer during Major Weapons Systems Day here Jan. 6. The MWS Day was held to provide Laughlin’s SUPT students an opportunity to look at and get a feel for some of the Air Force’s aircraft they may fly after graduating from Laughlin, such as a KC-135 Stratotanker, C-17 Globe Master III, B-1B Lancer and F-15E Strike Eagle. The MWS day also gave students an opportunity to attend briefings from aircrew to help them and their families obtain a better understanding of the operational Air Force. Laughlin Air Force Base student pilot graduates, Class 15-08, and their families tour two F-35 Lightning II jets on May 1, 2015. This Douglas A-1E was severely damaged in combat in South Vietnam. It is the aircraft that was flown by Maj. Bernard Fisher on March 10, 1966, when he rescued a fellow pilot shot down over South Vietnam, an act for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
