On a cool, cloudy Wednesday, Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas’ 47th Mission Support Group welcomed its new commander into their ranks, Col. Ted Glasco, on April 25, 2018.

Glasco assumed command from his predecessor, Col. Brain Hinsvark, in a ceremony that marked the transition of command with age-old tradition of passing the guidon. This trading of the guidon was led by Col. Charlie Velino, 47th Flying Training Wing commander.

“Welcome to Laughlin Air Force Base, and welcome to Del Rio, Texas,” Velino said. “I’m extremely glad you’re here and look forward to getting to know you as you settle in and learn to love this amazing community and the men and women of Team XL.”

For Glasco, formerly the director of Programs, Requirements, and Operational Analysis for the 24th Air Force, the new position brings the honor of further expanding the base, building relationships with Del Rio, and providing a strong platform to train Airmen to meet the current and future demands of the Air Force.

“Our nation’s success in battle is directly related to the quality and capacity of combat aviator training Team XL delivers,” Glasco said. “As an MSG team of extremely diverse Airmen, ours is a sacred trust—a trust to help set the conditions by which the wing delivers the world’s best military pilots, mission-ready warriors, and professional and confident leaders.”

For his short time on base thus far, Glasco expressed his humility, honor, and excitement to serve side-by-side with his new team.

“I’m truly honored to be your 47th Mission Support Group commander, and follow in the footsteps of a dynamic, caring, and mission focused leader found in Col. Hinsvark,” Glasco said.

Hinsvark, during his 24 months in command, led the MSG to secure multiple million-dollar contracts, to include a new defense control center at the base’s west gate; and the development of the base’s first pre-kindergarten to fifth grade Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics magnet school.
