LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas—Staff Sgt. Samantha Scheinost, 47th Operations Support Squadron Host Aviation Resource Management NCO in charge, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of July 29, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Brian Lewis, 47th Operations Group superintendent, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.

For the time being, Scheinost makes up the entirety of the HARM office—normally a four-person office—with occasional assistance. She makes it possible for pilots to fly by ensuring they have aeronautical order, tracking their medical documents and ensuring they get paid. She in-processes all pilots and students new to Laughlin and out-processes those who leave.

Scheinost innovated HARM’s in-processing procedures which keeps classes cycling and ready to fly every nine days. With the dramatic increase of students going through Undergraduate Pilot Training here, she has been challenged with handling more than 1,000 flight records on her own.

She is also taking college classes toward a resource management degree to better accomplish her job currently and for the opportunity of working for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Leadership awarded Schienost the “XLer” of the week for her ingenuity with innovating processes and taking the time to improve herself through going to college—all while keeping her shop afloat.

“It’s great even to be considered and to know my command shows the confidence they have in me to maintain HARM’s day-to-day operations,” Scheinost said.
