Team XL recognized the support of prominent civic leaders as a gesture of appreciation at the annual Del Rio Chamber of Commerce and Military Affairs Association Dinner and Awards Banquet, Feb. 28, 2024.

The event is held annually by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce to recognize Laughlin’s annual award winners. However, this year Laughlin leadership also celebrated civic leaders' pivotal role between Laughlin and the surrounding Del Rio community. Civic leader award winners received footballs as a representation of the support and dedication from Laughlin’s leadership to help Laughlin’s mission make it to the “end zone” every year.

“Civic leaders are a vital part in bridging awareness and fostering communication between the community they serve,” said Joseph Pagan, Chief, Community Relations, 47th Flying Training Wing public affairs. “The advocacy of the Civic Leaders in Del Rio is incredibly valuable. Ranging from Lightning Vault project, a joint effort between LAFB and Val Verde County to replace outdated airfield lighting equipment with new, ensuring continued airfield operations, to advocating for better living quarters for Airmen.”

Civic leaders help communicate Laughlin’s priorities back to their communities to help advance local and base wide quality of life initiatives and programs.

Their efforts ensure that the mission of Laughlin is understood and supported, helping to propel the base’s objectives to successful outcomes in a collaborative effort.

Honored during the event with the Community partner awards were:
Ms. Blanca Larson - Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Ms. Shannalea Taylor – Texas Military Preparedness Commission (TMPC) Commissioner

Ms. Nanca Rodriguez - Chamber of Commerce President
Mr. Al Arreola Sr. - City of Del Rio Mayor

“The civic leaders of Team XL have shown tremendous support over this last year, and we cannot thank you enough for your dedication to our united community,” said Col. Kevin Davidson, 47th Flying Training Wing commander. “Let’s go conquer 2024!”

Through recognitions such as these, Laughlin Air Force Base is fostering and expanding strong ties with its civic partners, ensuring a future for both the base and the surrounding community to thrive together.
