Students from Ceniza Hills Elementary School participated in a field trip to Laughlin, featuring the 47th Security Forces Squadron (SFS) Law Enforcement expo and a pilot show and tell, on May 15, 2025.

Students started their day at the Law Enforcement expo where they interacted with members of the 47th SFS and other local law enforcement agencies.

During the expo, hosted in honor of National Police Week, students gained an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement officials, including a Border Patrol mounted patrol horse presentation, drone seminars, and a 47th SFS K-9 demonstration.

“The students were able to explore different things about law enforcement and how it is used all around the world,” said Jessica Solis, Ceniza Hills Elementary School second grade teacher. “It's nice to see that an explanation was given, and students were able to [see] what their role is other than to ‘catch bad guys’.”

Following the expo, students engaged with instructor pilots from the 85th and 87th Flying Training Squadrons (FTS), through a pilot show and tell panel in Anderson Hall.  Student and instructor pilots presented their stories and why they became pilots.

“Planting the seed of serving and possibly becoming a member of the Air Force or becoming an aviator starts at a young age,” said Capt. Tyler Konek, 85th FTS instructor pilot. “I am sure it is something the kids will remember forever. The largest barrier to entry into the military is not having exposure directly to those who serve to answer questions.”

The students took to the flightline for a pet- the- jet event, where they got an up-close look at the T-6A Texan II and T-38C Talon, both used to train the next generation of Air Force pilots. During the event, pilots from the panel talked about their experiences with the aircrafts and what it takes to become a pilot. Students also had the opportunity to try on helmets and flight suit harnesses worn by pilots while flying.

“It was an extremely fulfilling experience to show [the students] what it means to be a member of the 47th Flying Training Wing,” said Konek. “It’s nice to give back to the community and remember the bigger picture of why we serve.”

By inviting young students to visit, Laughlin plays a pivotal role in fostering community engagement and inspiring young minds to dream big and Aim High.
