Laughlin Airman makes a lifestyle of healthy eating
Growing up, Airman 1st Class Matthew Blasberg worked out but was never what you’d call ‘fit’. His senior photos showed a round-faced boy who could have passed for a 12-year-old and he felt his confidence drain. Blasberg, fresh out of high school, moved away from home to take college classes. With the influence of his older sister, he began to dabble in healthy eating to reach a higher level of fitness. Not long after, he made the life-changing decision to join the U.S. Air Force.
Always believe in yourself, the rest will follow
Ever since she was young, Airman 1st class Sahira Contreras, 47th Healthcare Operations Squadron referral management technician, saw her Dad in uniform and knew that’s the life she wanted when she was older. Her Dad always supported her goals to follow in his footsteps, so when she finished high school at age 17, her parents co-singed for her to join the U.S. Air Force.

Tech. Sgt. Rafael Franjul, 47th Flying Training Wing Judge Advocate Office NCO in charge, strives daily to balance the rigors and demands of his U.S. Air Force job with family time. “I devote every moment I am not working to try and make sure my family knows how important they are to me,” Franjul said. “I do this by spending time with them doing activities we both enjoy.”

Family advocacy – empowering Laughlin Airmen

Recognizing life situations in the professional and personal environments, the 47th Medical Operations Squadron has organized several classes under the family advocacy program.
New programs reach Team XL
The 47th Force Support Squadron at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, has recently collaborated with the Airman and Family Readiness Center to introduce three new programs to the base. Among the new additions are the community center, Laughlin Information Tickets and Travel office and a Junior Flyer’s Club, all located in the A&FRC at Losano Fitness Center.
