  • Laughlin cyclist returns to racing after hit and run

    Albert Garcia, a controller in the 47th Operations Support Squadron, proved everyone wrong when he competed in the 208-mile No Country for Old Men ultra bicycle race Oct. 12. When Garcia got run over on his bicycle June 9, 2015 by a hit-and-run driver, it was supposed to be a day that stopped many things for him.

  • Cancer survivor says knowledge is power

    The solid gym doors swung open, spilling the warm, Texas evening light across the Losano Fitness Center carpet. A woman with a lively step marched across the gym lobby down the hallway greeting the people she saw by name. She turned right into a room with mirrors, colorful mood lamps and a light, hardwood floor. A handful of women greeted her as they stretched and warmed up for the class.

    As the captain keeps up with the constant movement of a treadmill’s run belt, two pairs of eyes watch his steady stride. An expert in analyzing runners’ movement and a camera with software designed to measure the slightest change in movement. The 47th Medical Operations Squadron health promotion program offers military members a way to enhance the 47th Flying Training Wing force readiness and supporting the Laughlin’s “Fit to Fight” culture.
