Members of the 47th Student Squadron from Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, participated in the unit’s first-ever Warrior Games here, April 5.

The Warrior Games, developed by physical training leaders from the STUS, included multiple relay events, calisthenics, a tire flip and a field goal kick, to breed competition and challenge members of the STUS to build and maintain fitness standards before beginning pilot training.

The Warrior Games was a result of coordination between multiple organizations to include the Laughlin Fire Department, motor pool, Losano Fitness Center and the 47th STUS.

“Our goal was to develop a new program that helps everyone coming to Laughlin for undergraduate pilot training,” said 2nd Lt. Christian Weaver, 47th STUS graduate flight staff duty officer. “Pilot training takes a lot of work and it’s easy to let fitness fall. We want to help new students build a good foundation for fitness.”

While the recent Warrior Games were mainly held for the 47th STUS, the idea is to eventually make the competition a bigger event.

“Our end game for the Warrior Games is to refine it and open it up to everyone,” said Weaver. “This event is a good way to build teamwork and camaraderie, and for Airmen to challenge themselves. We want everyone to have that opportunity.”
