LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Laughlin Air Force Base Security Forces joined forces with the Val Verde Sheriff's Office for a ballistic shield training session to support an ongoing effort to enhance the coordination and collaboration between local law enforcement agencies at the San Felipe Memorial Middle School, July 12, 2023.
"This training is to help integrate agencies as well as showcase the training our local law enforcement agency is doing to better understand their tactics," said Staff Sgt. David Yaeger, 47th Security Forces Squadron NCOIC of training.
The joint exercise aimed to foster mutual understanding, share expertise, and prepare SF personnel for practical cooperation during crises by integrating agencies and emphasizing shared training experiences. Participants in the training included Laughlin Defenders, the Del Rio Police Department, and the Del Rio Sector of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
"It's cool to get to know these guys and to hear some of the experience they have doing this type of work," said Staff Sgt. Anthony Zayas, 47th SFS flight sergeant. "It's a fair opportunity to come out and work with them.”
The ballistic shield training provided an invaluable opportunity for Team XL security forces personnel to familiarize themselves with the techniques employed by the Val Verde Sheriff's Office. By observing and participating in the exercises, military personnel gained insights into the strategies and skills used by local law enforcement to address crises effectively.
