  • Laughlin moves to HPCON Bravo

    Due to a steady decrease in positive COVID-19 cases in Val Verde County, the 47th Flying Training Wing commander, Col. Craig Prather, has directed the change to Health Protection Condition Bravo on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, effective immediately. The movement to HPCON Bravo does not alter the policies directed and implemented by the Department of the Air Force regarding mask-wear guidance on federal installations.

    “I’m the only black Lieutenant Colonel pilot on this base,” says Julián “Diesel” Benton, 47th Operations Group deputy commander. “It’s important for student pilots to see me. Just last week, I was speaking a foreign language with a student, and at the end of that conversation, the student says ‘I did not expect to meet a black man that speaks my language.’”

  • Airman Takes on Former AFSC to Unload Emergency Supplies

    How does a Religious Affairs Airman end up unloading emergency supplies off a C-130? Not by mistake. On Feb. 21, 2021, a C-130 Hercules from the 136th Airlift Wing in Fort Worth, Texas landed on Laughlin's flight line. The aircraft delivered emergency bottled water to Del Rio, Texas in response to a water shortage caused by Winter Storm Uri.
