Unit and job title: 47th Communications Squadron wing information systems security manager

Why she XLed: Linda Herzog, 47th Communications Squadron wing information systems security manager, led the wing’s cyber security office, ensuring secure communication for all of Laughlin’s 3,000 personnel. Herzog compiled two local area network accreditation packages, certifying 216 controls that renewed the base’s authority to connect to secure networks for three years. She took the lead of a time-critical review, scrubbing old passwords and accounts that posed a risk for hackers. Herzog regulated malicious code defense for Laughlin coordinating the wing’s USB device whitelist that secured and enabled 70 TB of storage base-wide. Herzog is also an Air Force master resiliency trainer; she mentored 13 new first-term Airmen, teaching them the importance of resiliency.
