LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Jamie Wells, 47th Medical Group pediatric nurse, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of Jan. 8, 2018.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Thatcher Cardon, 47th Medical Group commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
“I help run pediatrics, family health and flight medicine,” said Wells. “When our primary care managers are on leave or deployed, we step in to help alleviate when the schedules are busy, and we triage patients.
Wells led a ten-person Air Force medical home team, responsible for the care of more than 3,300 patients, allowing Laughlin to stay 100-percent mission ready.
Her innovative efforts allowed her to push an important mandate that streamlined more than 300 tele-health protocols, ultimately saving the 47th MDG approximately $4,000.
Ultimately, she distinguished herself by playing a direct role in saving a patient’s life during a medical emergency. She initiated an IV, and stabilized the patient’s condition, preventing the need for MEDEVAC.
For stepping up and taking the care for others upon herself, Jamie Wells has earned the XLer of the week award.
