UPDATE: Laughlin Airman found dead identified

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  A 47th Flying Training Wing Airman found dead off base near the railway in Del Rio, Texas on Tuesday, April 16, is identified as 2d Lt. James Chitika.

Chitika was a student pilot assigned to the 47th Student Squadron.

“Our deepest condolences are with the Chitika family, classmates, and friends of James during this difficult time,” said Col Kevin Davidson, 47th Flying Training Wing commander. “As we work through this tragedy, let’s focus on uplifting one another.”

Chitika is a 24-year-old native from Atlanta, Georgia and is survived by his father, mother, and sister.

The cause of the death is under investigation.
