Laughlin Air Force Base’s Education Center has recently been recognized by the Community College of the Air Force for excelling at the Air Force’s education mission for the second consecutive year.

Specifically, the Laughlin Education Center is again in the top 25 percent of bases in regards to the number of enlisted CCAF graduates per capita.

“What makes this even better, Laughlin is number one out of the undergraduate pilot training bases,” said Christine Engel, 47th Force Support Squadron chief of education and training. “Part of that is testament to the emphasis senior leaders, here, place on Airmen taking classes.”

While senior leaders are actively encouraging Airmen to take courses, the education center staff is pushing Airmen to finish their degrees.

“When we see an Airman is 15 credits or less away from their CCAF, we get aggressive in our counseling,” said Engel. “We will email, call or schedule a face-to-face session to help them plan out everything they need to finish.”

Even though the education center provides the help and support for Airmen to pursue their educational goals, the staff recognizes the Airmen’s initiative to obtain knowledge.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of the Airmen who are completing their degrees here,” said Engel. “This award is for the Airmen, and for their hard work in getting their education.”
