  • Is it the flu or is it coronavirus?

    It is easy to feel vulnerable because of news about the coronavirus outbreak. The name of this disease is coronavirus disease 2019, abbreviated as COVID-19. The symptoms of influenza (flu) and coronavirus infection are similar, but these two illnesses are caused by different viruses. People with the flu may jump to the conclusion that they have been exposed to COVID-19. However, it is important to keep things in perspective and avoid needless worry.
  • The Laughlin Heritage Corner with the 47 FTW Historian

    Here at Laughlin, we started training pilots for the first time in February 1943. We had spent all summer and fall in 1942 constructing and preparing the base for occupation, and it was finally time to fly. These first classes were small and had irregular start dates, but this was the very beginning of our training mission. In these early days, we taught pilots and co-pilots how to fly bombers—WW2-era B-26 Marauders, to be precise—and these first classes lasted about four-and-a-half weeks. Over the course of World War 2, nearly 3,000 bomber pilots would graduate from Laughlin.
  • XLer of the week: Maj. (Dr.) Phong Ngo

    Maj. (Dr.) Phong Ngo, 47th Medical Operations Squadron family medicine physician, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of Sept. 10, 2018, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Charlie Velino, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
