Cactus Lanes a 'hub' for Laughlin community

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Del Rio and Laughlin enjoy a long cooperative history, with downtown businesses providing support for Laughlin activities and Laughlin, in turn, providing economic benefits to the Del Rio workforce.

Recently the Cactus Lanes Bowling Center at Laughlin reached out and provided a day filled with fun for 45 third graders from neighboring Brackettville, and on the next day 25 from Del Rio. Some were learning to bowl, and some were old hands at it, but everyone was having a good time, and the communities grew closer.

The bowling lanes at Cactus Lanes are also a main attraction to the everyone at Laughlin. In an effort to expose more people to the sport, Cactus Lanes offers free bowling every weekday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student pilots, base families, and Department of Defense employees have been using this opportunity to practice their game.

In addition to league play, squadron competitions and family bowling, Cosmic Bowling is featured every Friday and Saturday night from 5 to 10 p.m., and a great crowd from the base population participates. Glowing pins, music, strobe lights and low prices add up to a fun time for all ages.
